Chaton (Round) Rhinestones: Sizes are typically expressed in "Stone Size" or "Pearl Plate". For example, a 30ss (round chaton) is .256 inches or 6.5mm (about 1/4 inch in diameter) and equivalent carat weight (in diamond) is 1 carat.
Fancy Stones: Sizes are typically expressed in Millimeters (mm). There are about 25mm to an inch so for example a 12/8mm oval stone Is about 1/2 inch long and about 1/3 inch wide.
The stone size measurement represents the longest and widest point of the stone
Typically fancy stone sizes are expressed with the length first, then the width (12/8mm), however will also see the size expressed with the width first (8/12mm). These stone sizes 12/8mm and 8/12mm are the same size, just expressed differently.
